The band took their name from Preservation Hall in the French Quarter, an homage to the iconic New Orleans jazz venue which became a hot spot for jazz shows upon its opening in 1961. The band is currently led by Ben Jaffe, tuba player and son of the group's founder, Allan Jaffe.
